Hua is a very sweet girl with a wonderfully kind temperament. She’s been a great breed ambassador, being one of the first Hmong Bobtails that many people have had the chance to meet in public. Ideally I would pair her with a bolder male to balance out her softer traits.

In training, she does not tolerate harsh corrections and learns best with light sessions, positive reinforcement, and high value food. After learning a new command, she’ll happily start to anticipate and offer the behavior for a reward. She’s more food motivated than play driven, but with encouragement will play fetch/tug with her favorite toys. Her energy level is medium range with a good off switch. She enjoys sniff walks, hiking, and weekend romps but can also chill contently at home when needed to.

In public, she’s neutral to friendly. Warms up to people but doesn’t go out of her way to greet most strangers (aloof). Is not reactive to other dogs and generally ignores them in public. Easy to handle at the vets and to groom. While usually chill at home, she’s also a watchdog and will let intruders know they’re not welcomed. She greets guests at home fine with proper introduction. Doesn’t bark incessantly and only alerts to what she deems suspicious.

Hua lives with another dog, an older neutered male shiba, and our senior cat whom she treats very gently. Her prey drive is directed mostly towards squirrels and rodents. She has fun scent hunting rats in Barnhunt and recently graduated a Nosework intro class. She is now learning some basic agility skills to build up her confidence and body awareness.
